What are the Characteristics of Effective Leadership?

Effective leadership is not an ability of one size fits all, but an ability to work hard with both head and mind.

Nelson Mandela once said “a leader is like a shepherd.

He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.”

We all want to be a leader.

It takes courage, hard work, and crucial risk-taking ability to be a great leader.

Placing yourself as a role model for people means doing things that can bring a positive change in the community, employees, or even the whole world.

Mark Zuckerberg did not just created Facebook; he helped 2 billion people across the globe to connect with each other.

The same case was with Steve Jobs. He has not only built the Apple realm, but the products he created are still making a real difference in people’s lives.

So what makes up effective leadership?

  • Self-confidence
    • This is the primary trait of leaders. Instead of running from challenges, they face them with high self-confidence.
  • Strong determination
    • Determined leaders are willing to affirm themselves. They desire to get the job done on time, and they are strongly determined to do so.
  • Emotional Stability
    • Good leaders can endure stress and frustration. They are emotionally stable and emotionally mature to deal with any situation.
  • Taking Risk abilities
    • For leaders, business growth and taking risks go hand-in-hand. Entrepreneurs who take risks may often have proven to be successful.
  • Problem Solving traits
    • Good leaders at their core have great problem-solving traits. They take practical measures to address issues and avoid conflicts when they occur.
  • Result-oriented
    • Real leaders believe in performing- to get the job done. They exceed expectations consistently. No results mean no leadership—as simple as that

In many ways, effective leadership is larger than life. To be a strong leader, you must possess essential skills like the ability to solve problems, find solutions, and make things better.

As Charles S. Lauer once said: “Leaders don’t force people to follow; they invite them on a journey.”

That means—as a leader—if you are doing a great job, others will join you on the journey of success.

You have set a vision, an example, and laid out a path they will want to pass through.

So what are your thoughts on this? Do you have right characteristics to be an effective leader?
